One Room Challenge – Fall 2020: Week 1, The Intro

Welcome to the launch of my website and my first blog post!  My name is Dasia of Heart Inspired Designs.  Creating a blog is something that I’ve always wanted to do.  My hope in creating this blog is to inspire you to create an environment at home where you can enjoy spending time with family and friends or even just time alone.  You can learn more about me here, so let’s jump into why you are really here!

Today is the official start of the Fall 2020 One Room Challenge (ORC) for guest participants and I couldn’t be more excited to join in on the fun!  Knowing that I wanted to participate in the ORC pushed me to complete this website just in time to participate with a blog.  I’ve always been on the sidelines cheering on my favorite designers and participants, but this year I felt the urge to participate myself.  I think this is also a great opportunity for me to meet new creative friends who share the same passion for interior design.

So, what’s the ORC?  The ORC is an online interior design event created by Linda Weinstein.  It’s a bi-annual event where 20 designers are chosen to be featured designers.  Historically they transform a room in their homes over a 6 week period and share their progress through blog posts and social media.  However, this season has a slight twist!  The ORC partnered with High Point Market and the featured designers will create virtual spaces.  In addition, anyone with a blog or Instagram account is welcomed to join!

So are you ready?  Let’s get right to it!  For this challenge, I’ve chosen to tackle the home office!  Fortunately our home was built with a designated office space.  Twelve years ago when we purchased our home, it was pretty cool to have a home office space.  We could not have imagined that we’d be working from home full-time.  Sure, we thought we’d use the office occasionally to work from home, store files or just have a place to sit and pay bills.

Before

More about this room and why I’ve chosen to transform it:

Since this room was not used very often, it has not been a priority for us to update.  Now as it turns out, it’s a permanent work space and it doesn’t reflect our style and taste anymore.  We also have to spread out so that we can keep the noise and disruptions to a minimum, while each member of our family attend school virtually or work from home.  So…….. if you’re working from home like we are, I’m sure you understand exactly what I mean when I say we need to keep the “noise and disruptions to a minimum”.  Separate spaces and work areas are absolutely necessary!

I’ve mostly been working in the space, but I was not motivated to work because the space is lacking in many areas.  It’s dark, outdated, lacks personality and style.  I’ve been rolling my eyes for the last 6 months, but there were other projects in the house that were bigger priorities so I tackled those first.  I am a lover of all things beautiful and this space is far from beautiful.  You can tell from the before photo!  Initially, I planned on redesigning the space for myself, but I got booted by hubby. That’s ok though, I’ve taken over the entire house, so it’s only fair that he gets his own space. I am so happy to create this space just for him.

Please stay tuned to next week’s blog where I’ll share the complete plan for the space.  I have some fun DIYs in mind, but let me run it by the hubster to see if he’s down with the plan.  I must admit that he’s not picky, so he’ll be very easy to work with.  You can also follow along on Instagram and Facebook.

Be sure to follow the other designers and participants with the hashtag #oneroomchallenge and #bhgorc on Instagram.  I can’t wait to see what everyone else is doing!  Until next time, stay safe!
